Farewell to Dr. Jember Teferra
We are very sad to inform you that Dr. Jember Teferra, born in Addis Ababa in 1943, died unexpectedly in London on 07 January 2021.
We would like to express our sincere condolences to her family and her former employees of IHA-UDP - Integrated Holistic Approach-Urban Development Project and to take this opportunity to thank them all very much for their generous support of Kinderhaus ADDIS e.V.:
Amesegenalehu!
In Amharic, this means: Thank you very much!
Some employees of Kinderhaus ADDIS e.V. - The German-Ethiopian Initiative had the chance to get to know Dr. Jember in November 2003 on the occasion of her visit to Berlin and learned about her work in one of the poorest districts of Addis Ababa, in the Kirkos Sub-City. Her organization IHA-UDP had set itself the goal of giving children, their parents and the elderly the chance of a better life, using a holistic approach. Helping people to help themselves was the top priority. Dr. Jember made us the offer to work with her organization, and, seeing the opportunities this would create for our project, we happily agreed to team up with IHA-UDP.

Berlin, 27 November 2003, Dr. Jember Teferra on her visit to Berlin where she got to know the two chairwomen of the association "Kinderhaus ADDis e.V.“, Julia Butz (center) and Zewdenesh Hebben. This marked the beginning of a great collaboration.
We were able to start our joint efforts in February 2005: 30 children, selected by IHA-UDP in the Kirkos Sub-City, were now able to attend a kindergarten or school. To start with, we provided around 100 euros per child, which was used to finance the costs of attending kindergarten or school, school uniforms, material and a daily warm meal. In Dr. Jember we had found a competent and reliable partner and we were able to experience her amazing work on the occasion of our visits to the project in Addis Ababa. Mutual trust was rewarded with reliability and honesty on both sides. Our common goal was and is to this day: to give children from the poorest backgrounds a solid chance for a better life.
We would like to thank this great woman, this admirable personality from the bottom of our hearts, and we will cherish the memory of her forever.
